Paper trails, crap emails
A lack of expertise disguised by authority
There you go, upholding the status quo
Even though you've hit the end of the road
Playing nice, avoiding fights
I've been far too kind
What have I gained by giving up control?
Nothing, nothing at all
There is no other choice
And I have no remorse
There is no other course
Option C
My mind is made, nothing can stay
Time to burn it down to the ground
That's the last time I leave it in your hands
That's the last time I leave it up to a man
Made it home at the break of the dawn
There's nothing concealer can't hide
And when you ask, I'll pull an excuse from my pack of alibis
I've been bubbling over all this time
I'm like a giant weeping tide
You've given up trying to diffuse what's keeping me boiling on the inside
Opaque
I just can't share the pain
I need to ache and maybe it will fade away
Maybe I'll come clean this time
And I'll knock it off with the lies
Then you can pass me a box of tissues to wipe away a life's worth of crying
Opaque
I just can't share the pain
I need to ache and maybe it will fade away
about
Philadelphia-based No Other distills several strands of punk, pop and indie rock guitar music into a sound that's simultaneously cathartic and hypnotic—a bracing rush of noise, melody and emotion.
The Option C 7-inch for Negative Fun Records was recorded with Jeff Ziegler (Kurt Vile, Nothing, War On Drugs) at Uniform Recording in March 2014, and showcases their signature sound from two different angles: the A-side ("Option C") is an intense blast of strangled guitar and staccato rhythms, while its flip side ("Opaque") sways dreamily as it retains an undercurrent of melancholy that surges forward on the chorus.
Perhaps it’s a cliché that great art is often born in turmoil but there's a germ of truth in the case of No Other. The seven-inch was recorded during a personally rough period for the members of the band. As band mates, they found solace within the comfort of the practice space, a place where they could release all their pent-up emotions. Consequently, there's urgency to this music: it feels as if it's forming in front of our ears. Underneath this roiling surface, however, lies sharply sculpted song craft and passion.
"Option C" skirts on the edge of cacophony, its barreling overdriven guitar alternating with shouted backing vocals; this mess isn't merely invigorating, it's an appropriate soundtrack to the song's portrait of coiled rage against institutional sexism. "Opaque" glides by on a shimmer that camouflages a sadness lying deep beneath its fuzzed out slide guitars and endless echoes; its measured elegance means this portrait of a personal loss resonates on a universal scale." Option C" crackles with an invigorating fury that gives way to the sweet sorrow of "Opaque." No Other makes no attempt to disguise their emotions on the A-side, and resides in introspective sadness on the B-side. Taken together, the Option C single serves as answer songs to each other, but more than that, it is another powerful entry in the No Other catalog.

Can't listen w/o hearing Young Marble Giants, but a more nervous, taut take. All the tracks are great, but can't stop humming the title to myself. Josh Steichmann
This collection of songs is damn near perfect. Raw, catchy, powerful, infectious. I can’t stop listening. Favorite tracks are “You Shatter”, “Eraser”, and “Throw of the Dice.” crn
